The government’s Remigrant Housing Scheme is taking shape with the Housing Ministry preparing to allocate its first batch of house lots during a “One-Stop-Shop” billed to coincide with the staging of the 2012 International Building Expo.
Some 558 house lots are available, but the demands outstrips the supply, as more and more Guyanese have been expressing interest, and are ready to return home.
Housing and Water Minister Irfaan Ali said that the scheme will be developed according to the highest international standards, and following the most precise quality guidelines. He said he was happy that the project was taking shape and the interest levels from Guyanese in the diaspora were high.
“We will deliver those remigrants and returning Guyanese house lots once they qualify and follow our guidelines.”
Thousands of Guyanese will become homeowners as the Housing and Water Ministry continues to intensify its housing drive and developmental initiatives under the East Bank Development Project.
Minister Ali explained that his team of hard working staff will ensure that they deliver on the promise to allocate more than 6500 house lots this year. “We remain humbled by our accomplishments and proud of the fact that every day we are changing the lives of our people in a unique, yet non-discriminatory manner,” he said.
